OOTD

Oh hai! Kinda forgot I was trying to start a fashion blog/been lazy about taking photos.

But today I went to this crafty mart fair thing in Akron with my friends Courntey and Hannah to see our friend Liz who was vending with her awesome jewelry, which you can see here at her Etsy shop! While there, a very familiar looking girl asked Courtney and I if she could take photos of us for an Akron based street fashion blog [EDIT: that fashion blog is called Dresses for Dinner and it's really cool so check it out!].

Okay, I know it's little Akron, Ohio, but it has been a goal of mine to be asked such a question. Just sucks it was on a day I threw on jeans and a t-shirt without a shower, and had a beet red nose from tissues (yea, thanks, allergies).

If they choose to use our photos they'll be up next Friday so I'll keep you posted. We followed the craft fair with a trip to a few small boutiques and the mall. Got a ton of new rings, a silly bling bow belt and leggings. It was a good day for accessories.

I'm going to see my friend's band The Singular in a few minutes. Here's what I'm wearing to the show:

Messy room, sleepy Jango.

Cardigan from a clothing swap, Maroon high-waisted skirt and grey V-neck from Gabriel Brother's, Belt from Wet Seal, Rose ring from Revival, Bow ring from Charlotte Russe, Grey & black leopard print tights from Target (not pictured, really)

A better look at the rings, and my nails! Tried out those Sally Hansen stick on polish strips. They're alright. Started to chip after a week so I decided to put hot pink french tips over them.

GPOY! (Yea, I joined Tumblr)

Been getting a lot of compliments on my hair lately, which is funny cuz I think it looks like crap. Tried to bleach out the blue streaks a week ago and they turned an interesting shade of
mint/seafoam green. If they had been smaller streaks instead of one big chunk on the side of my head, it maybe would have looked cool. I wasn't a big fan though so I just dyed it blue again. Fading a bit here to an aqua-greenish color. Mermaid hair!

Thinking Critically About Fashion

I recently found a really great blog entry by J. Bee of "Sassyfrass Circus" and "Femme a Barbe" zines that discusses her thoughts on wanting to be a fashion conscious individual, but also a politically conscious being. I suggest you read it, and get copies of her zines.

As for me, I haven't made a post here in quite some time! I really wanted to take photos while I was in Chicago for the Chicago Zine Fest, of my own outfits and those of fest attendees/tablers, but then I got all shy about asking people if I could take their photos. Plus I was so busy! You can read all about my mini vacation and the fest over at my other blog, Miss Teen Ohio. If you don't feel like reading all of that, at least check me out in my magical metallic pink jacket!

Pink jacket by Lipstick (from Gabriel Brothers), Sequined parrot shirt borrowed from Serene

I wore the jacket to the CZF "Outta This World" after party, which had a (duh) outer space theme. I didn't wear the parrot top, but instead a slightly metallic-y navy blue front and grey jersey knit back racer back tank top. The jacket came off almost immediately as I got too hot from dancing! I got it at Gabriel Brothers maybe a little over a year ago for $13. I felt silly spending that much on something I'd only wear occasionally. And it's true, I rarely wear it. I think the only other time it's seen the outside world was the one time I felt brave enough to wear it while DJing Hot Knees (the weekly indie dance night my friend/DJ partner, Glenna, and I used to run. I think I've mentioned this before). But COME ON! Who could have passed such a wonderful article of clothing up?! Not this lady.

Anyway, as with most projects I take on, I've really let this one slip away from me a bit. Between days of really 'blah' outfits and not yet having found a good way to take photos of the not so 'blah' ones, I just haven't had a lot to post here. I'll try to get better for my whole three subscribers!

Dance With Care

Latest obsession: My Bloody Valentine (the band, not that god awful 3-D movie I got forced to watch in my Cult Films class that is so NOT CULT). I wanted to post the video for "Only Shallow" but YouTube wouldn't let me. So, watch it here. It's REALLY GOOD. Like, really. Believe me. Please.

In other news: The past week or so hasn't been too fashionable for me between awful weather and our basement flooding Sunday night. Actually, I wore something really cute on Sunday for our DJ set at B Side Liquor Lounge, but came home to a lake in my basement so uh, pictures weren't the first thing on my mind.

But here are the two outfits I wore today! The first was to go run "errands" (a.k.a. spend way too much money at Gabriel Brother's and not even buy the items you left the house to buy):

Top from H&M, Skirt from Express, Boots from Unionbay, Stockings and bracelet from Gabe's, Kimono cardigan from clothing swap, and Red belt from thrift shop

I wished for a big, black sun-hat a la Lydia Deetz but settled for my usual knit H&M hat (not pictured). Felt almost too witchy in this, though, so I changed before going to watch my friends Sarah and Natalie compete in the Michel's Lounge Idol Karaoke Finals! (Sarah won 3rd place! Yea, girl!)

Shorts and tights from Gabe's, Boots from clothing swap, Scarf found at my work, Owl neckace from Forever 21, Same top & cardigan as before!

Obligatory moody scenester camera-above-the-head shot.

Once again, I really need to find a better way to take photos of my outfits if I plan to keep this up. And how to pose, geesh! And maybe since I went shopping today you'll stop seeing me recycle the same five pieces of clothing over and over (but probably not).

But enough dissin myself. Instead, here's a cute photo of my boyfriend and me. I posted a lot more on my other blog. I'm stupid head over heels for him and I want the world to know!

Zomg we're wearing sunglasses inside and taking black & white photos on my MacBook- HOW ORIGINAL ARE WE?! Shut up, I like it.

In Case You Weren't Convinced

I am pretty much on a mission to get everyone I know to agree with me that Robyn is THEE coolest person on this planet. Here's just one reason:

I'd do a post on Robyn's style (which is, duh, AMAZING), but I'm lazy so...another day!

Party Poison

So I guess I lied about not taking photos of my outfit for our DJ set at 157 last Friday night! Granted, they are crappy Photobooth photos- but I did take some! (While on the phone with my boyfran, drunker than I thought I was...sorry, babe.) This was my "scene boy circa 2006/inspired by My Chemical Romance" look. Ignore the silly faces, but feel free to admire our lilac walls and amazing floral couch!

Motorcycle jacket and turquoise ring from Kohl's, "BRI" belt from a random mall kiosk, Black racerback/lace back tank top from the Miley Cyrus line at Wal-Mart (eep), Black crop vest from Charlotte Russe

This week, I've been a little lazy. We got hit by a storm on Monday, okay? I've had no reason to dress up. Though the boy did come to visit me yesterday, unexpectedly, so I decided to wear a little color:

Black slubknit cardigan from a clothing swap, Floral top from Old Navy, Earrings and hat from H&M

I felt very artsy hippie grandma chique in this. Wore it with Delia's Morgan skinnies in deep indigo (anyone else think these are falsely advertised? They're bootcut, not skinny!) and some little black wedge flats I got from Gabe's.

In other news: I need to learn how to pose.

Gala Darling has asked readers to submit their own Things I Love Thursdays posts, so here's mine!

Grandma sweaters and kitten cuddles on cold days.
Drag makeup tutorials on YouTube.
Finding L.A. Colors eyeshadow for $1 at the Dollar Tree- a recommended brand from one of those drag tutorials (granted it was for beginners drag or Halloween drag...but still!)
♥ My Chemical Romance. It's getting bad you guys. Like, all I can listen to. And with that, the beauty of Gerard Way and Frank Iero:

♥ The Girl Love Tumblr!
♥ Working on my DJ set for the return of Hot Knees at B Side Liquor Lounge this Sunday! (Hot Knees was a weekly indie dance night run by my DJ partner, GFF, and I, but since that ended I guess it's become our DJ duo moniker?)
♥ Getting to see my boyfran when I didn't think I'd get to this week.
♥ Jordan and I having our first practice for the two-piece we're working on! We wrote like...half a song! Also, playing guitar in front of someone else for pretty much the first time, and not entirely sucking.
♥ Of course, unicorn hair. And lilac nails.
♥ This adorable video of Muppets (plus Baby Cookie Monster) playing LCD Soundsystem's "Dance Yrself Clean" to an unsuspecting crowd:

Latest Obsession: Unicorn Hair

Let's talk a second about my latest obesssion: unicorn (or My Little Pony) hair. I did not come up with either of these phrases (unicorn hair came from, again, Stella Rose, and I saw zinester Alex Wrekk post photos of her faded pastel hair on twitter, quoting her sister as having called it My Little Pony hair).

I've been pretty stoked on this look for a few months now, though. Mostly when I saw this girl (I think on Fuck Yeah Undercuts? I need to start saving my sources with these images!)

HOLY AWESOME HAIR, BATMAN! I mean, seriously, her hair is the reason I am currently growing mine out- all so I can bleach the shit out of it, dye it candy pink and lilac, then get an asymmetrical cut or an undercut. Oh yeah, that makes perfect sense.

Just a few more examples of ethereal hair (again, sorry for my lack of sources!)

Okay, dammit, I had to include Gaga. Her My Little Pony locks were too good. Plus she's rockin the all black look with it (which I really need to come up with a cool name for)- 100% approval!

In other hair/total babe news, can I just swoon over Kristen Stewart as Joan Jett a little more PLEASE? Rewatched The Runaways for the 3rd or 4th time the other night, as it's now on Netflix Instant, and I can't get over what an awesome job she did portraying Joan, or how hot she made having a mullet look. Definitely on the want to be and bone list (may have to make a post on all of these in the near future).

Maybe my hair will reach this level of epic mullet-ness in the growth process. I doubt I could ever pull it off as well:
